Find out how a dental bridge could save your smile and prevent tooth loss complications.

No one wants to lose a permanent tooth but unfortunately, it happens sometimes. Of course, you could wallow in the fact that you have lost a permanent tooth or you could do something about it. When you are ready to find out how to replace your missing teeth and finally get a full smile back then it’s time to turn to our Cordova, TN dentist Dr. Jason Botts to find out if a dental bridge is right for you.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is designed to replace one or more missing teeth in a row. While traditional dental bridges have been supported with dental crowns placed on neighboring healthy teeth, dental implants can also provide a stable foundation from which to attach a dental bridge.

Traditional bridges use two dental crowns, which are placed over teeth on either side of the gap. These teeth need to be strong and healthy enough to support a dental crown. Once the dental crowns are made and cemented over the teeth the false tooth or teeth are then attached to the crown to replace the missing tooth.

If you are looking for a more long-term solution and you don’t mind waiting for several months then dental implants might be a better match for you. Implants are placed into the jawbone where over time it fuses together with the bone to become a stable, permanent foundation from which to support your artificial teeth. While it will take longer for implants over traditional bridges, the implants are strong enough to last several decades. Ideally, you could have your new smile for the rest of your life!
